Walking...sort of...

Just days before our vacation, I decided that Violet was going to take her first steps.  I sat a few feet away from the nanny and we passed Violet around like a hot potato.  At some point we both let go, and having no other choice, she made two steps before being caught.  It was one of greatest moments and made me feel so incredibly proud!  I bet this is what God felt like when Jesus walked on water.  Now that the milestone is behind us, I can go on my vacation knowing I didn't miss Violet's first steps! Phew!

Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma

Violet started saying Mama!!! Finally!!!  Now she can't stop saying it at every opportunity she gets. Wet diaper? Mama! Hungry? Mama! Cranky? Mama! It's the sweetest 2 syllables I have ever heard.  When I ask her, "Where is mama?"  She points at me!  My little girl is all grown up.

Walking?

Yesterday was Violet's 11 months Birthday.  When I came home from work, she scooted over to the couch, pulled herself up to a standing position and let go in an attempt to walk towards me.  As soon as that first step was made, she quickly met the floor and began to wail.  Most parents would be overjoyed to see their baby attempt their first steps, but my first thought was fear.  Yes, fear that while we are tanning ourselves silly on vacation, I will miss this pivotal step in my child's life.  Violet, if you're reading this, you have exactly six days to figure out this balance business.  Once that is out of the way, it's: right, left, right, left...you get the point.
