Mirror, mirror on the wall

Damn, I look goooood - not a day over 11 months.

Haircut, hugs and heat

Date #2

Watch your hands! I am not that kind of toddler!

You can't come to my party!

Gene recently picked up Violet from daycare and here is their conversation as they slowly walked down the stairs.

Gene: Violet, please hurry, we have to get home to have dinner.
(Violet continues to walk at a snail's pace)
Gene: Violet, please hurry it up.
Violet: Daddy, that's it, you're not invited to my Birthday party!
Gene: But, I want to come to your party!
Violet: If you want to come to my party, you have to be a good boy and listen to me.

A few days later...
(Violet is misbehaving)

Gene: Violet, if you don't listen you can't come to my party!
Violet: Daddy, your party already passed.
Gene (to me): Damn, she's good!

Ivy is ONE!

Happy Birthday to a little girl who makes my whole face light up when I look at her.  Ivy Kat, I love you more than words can ever express.   Thanks to you (and your sister) life is a lot simpler, clearer and priorities are easy to set.  You taught me what's important and not to sweat the small stuff and for that I am forever grateful.
Don't tell daddy and Violet, but you're also the best cuddler!

Fete Paradiso

Every once in a while a day comes along that is so perfect that you can't help but think back to it and smile.  If it wasn't for the 95 degree heat, this would have been one of those days.  After learning that a new restaurant with a beautiful outdoor garden opened just a few blocks away we decided to scope it out for an early brunch/late breakfast.  We walked through the airy space to the garden and were pleasantly surprised to find it completely empty.  When you're dining with two little kids, there is no better scenario.   There was tons of shade and even a little water fountain which kept Violet busy the entire time we ate.

After our meal we took the girls home and they both went down for their nap (2+ hours!) while Gene and I watched TV and cuddled.  Once the girls woke up we met up with my mom and walked to Pier 6 for the 4:30pm ferry to Governors Island, where Fete Paradiso was making its debut. Being somewhat of a Francophile, I was extremely excited to see vintage carnival rides from the late 19th and early 20th century.  To further enhance the nostalgic experience, a bumper car pavilion was transformed into a beer garden as period music played throughout the park.  Even the carousel operators played their part by dressing in attire reminiscent of a Fellini film.
When we got on the boat, Violet quickly found an open window and spent the entire ride with wind blowing in her hair; Ivy of course imitated.  I decided it was a good idea to stick my iPhone out of the window to try to take a picture of the three of us.  I call this shot: #selfpicfail.

Violet was being a good big sister and held on to Ivy - who is still wobbly on her feet.

Once we arrived on Governors Island I remembered how much I love the peace and tranquility of this place.  There is something so soothing about being in a place that doesn't allow cars.  We roamed around and let Violet run as much as her heart desired.  That girl really isn't very nervous about separating from her parents.  She can easily just walk off and not look back for a REALLY long time.  Miss Independent!
